Cotton Candy Cloud Blanket (Free Crochet Blanket Pattern)

Introduction

Have you seen all the super chunky arm knit blankets all over the internet? I’ve been seeing them everywhere for quite some time now, however, I don’t knit well yet and haven’t tried my hand at arm knitting so I decided on this!

Inspiration

I made this for my 9(now 10)-year-old daughter for Christmas this past year and she just absolutely fell in love with it immediately.  Just look at this smile 🙂

I decided on the name ‘Cotton Candy Cloud Blanket’ because the colors remind me a bit of cotton candy and it kinda feels like you’re in a cloud when you’re all wrapped up in it!

About The Yarn

I used 4 strands of Bernat Blanket yarn held together (2 pink, 2 ivory) and my gigantuon 25mm hook.  This is the first project I’ve made with this huge hook and it’s a little uncomfortable to use because of it’s sheer size but it works up so quickly that it was worth it!

Techniques Used

I used the Moss Stitch for this blanket which quickly became of my favorite stitches after learning it within the last year.  It looks so nice and even and I love how it’s pretty solid looking but is still very breathable.  It’s also a reversible stitch which I always love!  I love sleeping with this blanket because it’s so fluffy and comfy but the holes are just enough to keep me from sweating all night.

Materials

4 strands of Bernat Blanket yarn held together (I used 2 strands of Bernat Blanket Brights in Pixie Pink and 2 strands of Bernat Blanket in Vintage White for the body, 4 strands of Pixie Pink for the border) (I think I used 14 balls total, I’m sorry I didn’t keep track!)

25mm crochet hook

Notes

-I used my fingers to weave in ends!

-My blanket is very large.  It measures 6′ x 8′! If you’d like a smaller blanket simply chain any even number of stitches and work less rows (an odd amount of rows for the border to work nicely).

Pattern

Foundation: ch 41

R1 sc in 3rd ch from hook, (ch 1, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch) across, ch 2, turn (20 sc and 20 ch-sp)

R2 sc in first ch-sp, (ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-sp) across

R3-53 repeat row 2

Border setup: I did 2 rows of Moss Stitch with the pink and ivory making (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner

Shell border: with 4 strands of pink sl st into any ch-sp (ch 1 [sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc] in next ch-sp, ch 1, sl st in next ch-sp) across each side with (sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner

Finish off and weave in ends (I just used my fingers!)
