I want to start by saying I absolutely loved working with Darn Good Yarn for the first time! This was also my first time working with 100% wool yarn and it’s so thick and cozy, making it perfect for this hooded cowl I designed.

Playing around with different stitches with this yarn was fun and frustrating at the same time.  I always find myself wanting to use complex or interesting stitches but when swatching with this yarn it practically screamed ‘keep it simple’ at me. Sometimes a simple garter and 1×1 rib for the whole piece is the way to go!

This pattern is free on the Darn Good Yarn website and is also available as a kit! There are several color options available and would look beautiful in any of them! Get your kit at the link below!

PROJECT KITS

Of all of the things that I love about this piece, I think the absolute simplicity of it all is my favorite.  Not only is the entire piece only knit and purl stitches, the construction is super simple also.  The hood is worked flat in garter stitch, a teensy bit of seaming, then picking up stitches to knit the 1×1 ribbed cowl. That’s it! It’s really a perfect beginner project!

I hope you give this pattern a go, you won’t be disappointed! Share a pic of your finished project and tag me and DGY so we can see!!!
